The conflict effectively ended on Aug. 26. Israel did not achieve a decisive defeat of Hamas in terms of eliminating its ability to continue attacks, but effectively ended most of the threat. Hamas, despite its hollow claim of victory, is responsible for initiating the destruction of large areas of Gaza and at least 2,000 Palestinian deaths.
