Litenings for Portuguese F-16s
The Portuguese Air Force selected the Litening Advanced Targeting (AT) system to equip its F-16. Portugal is expecting to receive 12 pods by next year. To date, over 550 LITENING targeting pods have been ordered by the United States Air Force and allied nations. More than 470 of the systems have been fielded, the largest number of any advanced targeting and sensor system. Litening has been integrated on F-16 Blocks 15, 25, 30/32, 40/42, and 50/52, amassing more than 420,000 cumulative flight hours. Other European air forces operating the Litening include the air forces of Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Romania and Turkey and the UK, as well as the Spanish Navy and Italian Navies. ![]()

Israel - C-130J-30 Aircraft
Israel is planning to replace its ageing C-130s with new Lockheed C-130J-30s. According to a planned sales notification made by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency Israel is interested in acquiring nine 'Super Hercules' transport planes at a total value of $1.9 billion. To improve operations at night and under adverse weather conditions the aircraft will be fitted with an electro-optical payload, AN/AAQ-22 Star SAFIRE III. It will come fully configured with self-protection suite, comprising the AN/AAR-47 missile warning systems (MWS), AN/ALR-56M advanced radar warning receivers (RWR) and AN/ALE-47 chaff-flare dispensing system. Its communications suite will comprise HF radios and AN/ARC-210 secure VHF/UHF radios. ![]()
