“We are convinced that our offer is the best alternative
for Denmark. Saab offers Danish industry a strong and long term
profitable industrial co-operation, exceeding the requirement
of 100 percent of the order value of a Gripen deal”, says
Saab’s CEO Åke Svensson. “The industrial collaboration
carries with it an historic opportunity for broader Scandinavian
co-operation.”
In the next few years Denmark will be renewing its aircraft
fleet and the deal could cover as many as 48 fighter aircraft.
Saab is offering the Gripen Next Generation, currently under
development. This aircraft will be fully NATO compatible. Denmark
is also considering the F-35 Lightning II for this role. A similar
model is also competing with Lockheed martin's JSF on a potential
order from Norway. Saab expects it will be available for delivery
from 2016 or earlier, pending Denmark requirements. Gripen is
in service with the Swedish, Hungarian and Czech Republic Air
Forces and has also been ordered by the South African Air Force.
The UK Empire Test Pilots´ School (ETPS) is operating
Gripen as its advanced fast jet platform for test pilots worldwide.
