Bundeswehr Contracts RDE For
New Infantry Suite |

Rheinmetall Defence
received a Bundeswehr multi-million contract to develop an
advanced infantry combat suite for the German infantry.
Rheinmetall and EADS are expected to compete for large scale
production of the final system, as the program reach maturity
around 2009. The new system dubbed idZ-ES will utilize existing
weapons and personal gear and focus on the electronic systems,
introducing a new wearable computer, advanced voice, data and
video communications, C4I system integration a new head gear,
and sensors. |

India to Produce
Improved Engines for Upgraded MiG-29s |
|
HAL will produce 120 Klimov
RD-33 series 3 extended life-cycle jet engines at its Koraput plant to equip 66
upgraded MiG-29s currently in Indian Air Force service. India
and Russia are finalizing the US$1billion modernization program
this week. |

Active-Mirror, Laser
Employed in new IFF SCOUT Technology |
|
The Pentagon is funding the development of a new combat
identification device called SCOUT that will be able to warn
pilots, tank gunners or missile operators as they aim their
weapons on friendly troops. The new system will identify between
Friend and Foe (IFF) utilizing a low-power active optical device
that can be patched on the uniform, helmet or around the
vehicle's sides. Developed by the MEMS specialist Boston
Micromachines Corporation and research partner Boston
University, The program is scheduled to mature over the next 12
months and be ready for implementation in within two years. |

Condition Based Maintenance for Army Combat Fleet |
|
The US Army will field a comprehensive "enterprise level"
maintenance information system for its ground combat vehicle
fleet. The system will integrate existing test and diagnostic
equipment to develop fleet wide logistic and situational
awareness, implementing modern Condition Based Maintenance
service that will enhance the operation and effectiveness of the
tactical and combat vehicles of the current force.

U.S. Army Receives First
Mobile Gun Stryker MGS |
|
The U.S. Army has received the first of its Mobile
Gun System (MGS) vehicles to equip the Stryker brigades. The 21
ton MGS uses a Stryker AFV chassis equipped with a low profile
105mm gun turret. There
will be three MGS assigned to each infantry company. |
