Zibar TruckNew Pick-Up Truck ZIBAR Hauls 2.8 Tons Anywhere

Ido Off-Road Center, developer of the Zibar is providing here a peek into the new model of Zibar Truck, a heavier, more powerful ‘pick up truck’ version of Zibar Mk II, designed for extreme duty off-road work. Zibar Truck offers almost the same performance and cross-country mobility, carrying loads of 2.8 tons on a large rear mounted flatbed cargo. The truck is powered by a GM Duramax 6.6L diesel engine developing 520 HP, and torque of 850 lb-ft – twice the torque level of the petrol engine used with Zibar Mk II. (Read More...)

Plasan SandCatStretched Paramilitary Versions for the Sandcat

Plasan are showing two new models of the SandCat, designed for paramilitary and police missions. Plasan has already delivered a special version of the SandCat to the Israeli border security corps, as well as the Israel police special response units. Plasan has recently delivered 78 SandCats to Israeli homeland security and law enforcement agencies, including 51 to the Border Guards, 25 to the Police and two to the Prison Authority. XC2VCrowd-Driven Combat Support Vehicle Prototype Completed in 98 Days

After 14 weeks of work, rapid prototyping automotive manufacturer Local Motors has completed the manufacturing of the ‘Flypmode’, the winning design of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)’s ‘Crowd-Driven Combat Support Vehicle’ XC2V.
DARPA’S XC2V Design Challenge asked individuals to co-create a vehicle body design for two different missions – Combat Reconnaissance and Combat Delivery & Evacuation. The FLYPMODE, designed by Victor Garcia won the first prize – $7,500 in cash and to be built into a prototype by Local Motors. (Read More...)

Pentagon Spends $20 Billion per Year on Air-Conditioning Tents

In an effort to provide reasonable living conditions to over 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Pentagon is spending over $20 billion a year on air conditioning. The amount reflects the gross investment in maintaining air conditioning at the front line, including the hardware, fuel, transportation, protection etc. “When you consider the cost to deliver the fuel to some of the most isolated places in the world — escorting, command and control, medevac support — when you throw all that infrastructure in, we’re talking over $20 billion,” retired brigadier general Steven Anderson, who served as Gen. David Patreaus’ chief logistician in Iraq, said on an interview on NPR. (Read More...)

Rafael is demonstrating a new concept of Multi-level Integrated Command, Control and Communications Air Defense (MIC4AD) at the Paris Airshow 2011. “With this system we go beyond the weapon system, introducing a system of systems that manages, optimizes and controls networked, air defense capabilities” Yossi Horowitz, RAFAEL air defense business development executive told Defense-Update. Unlike current solutions that interface existing air defense assets within the air forces’ operational air picture, leaving the actual management and target allocations to the individual units of the AD corps, MIC4AD enables much deeper integration, facilitating ‘coexistence’ of air defense weapon systems within crowded and active air space. MSAVThe Pentagon Allocates Half a Billion US$ to Outfit Afghans with New AFVs within 18 Months

Textron Marine & Land Systems will provide 440 Medium Armored Security Vehicles (MASV) to equip the Afghanistan National Army (ANA) within 18 months for a total cost of $543 million.
The MASV family of armored vehicles comprises nine variants, configured for specific missions; the vehicles are derivatives of the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) operated by the U.S. forces. ASV Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) are also operating with the Iraqi military and police, and the military forces of Colombia and Bulgaria. (Read More...)

PARSTurkish FNSS Finalize Armored Vehicle Procurement Deal with Malaysia

The Malaysian procurement of 257 wheeled armored vehicles from the Turkey has moved a step forward with the signature of ‘letter of offer and acceptance’ by DRB-Hicom Defence Technologies (Deftech) for the design, development and manufacture of the vehicles. Deftech will be FNSS’  local partner, manufacturing and supporting the $559 million program in Malaysia. FNSS is a joint venture between BAE Systems, Inc., and Turkey’s Nurol Holding. (Read More...)

India IEDIndian Police Reserve Suffer Heavy Casualties from Multiple IED Attacks

Indian police forces continue to suffer attacks by Naxal insurgent groups. Two ambush attacks by the Maoist groups that took place in the past 48 hours have claimed the lives of 18 members of Indian Police Forces (Jawans) and Special Police Officers (SPO). The two attacks were aimed at troops traveling in protected supply vehicles and armored trucks, supporting units deployed in the area. (Read More...)


VOSSLockheed Martin to Deliver 110 Vehicular/Portable Surveillance Systems

Lockheed Martin received a $58.6 million contract from the U.S. Marine Corps for more Vehicle Optic Sensor Systems II (VOSS II) and Portable Rapid Deployment Surveillance Systems (PRDSS). Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide 110 VOSS II and 30 PRDSS, plus additional field services and equipment in support of these systems. The new kits are designed as lightweight and portable systems, offering combat teams riding in MRAPs a 360 Degree “eyes on” camera system. The equipment will be produced at the Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems facility in Sarasota, Fla., and the period of performance will continue through March 2012. (Read More...)

t72Ethiopia Orders 200 Upgraded T-72s from Ukraine

Ethiopia has ordered more than 200 T-72 upgraded tanks from Ukraine, in a deal worth over US$100 million. State controlled arms exporter Ukrspecexport SC has signed the contract yesterday with the Defense Ministry of Ethiopia. This order, expected to be delivered from Ukraine military surplus, is the largest export order Ukraine has signed in the past 15 years and also, one of the largest single deliveries of Main Battle Tanks in recent years.
