The biennial Defense Security Equipment International Exhibition (DSEI) held in London in September 2017 provided insight into British defense programs. The event attracted strong international participation, both visitors and exhibitors from 42 countries, many of which addressed UK and European defense and security requirements. This review highlights some of the main themes at the show.

Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and Hellenic Ministry of National Defense have signed an expansive agreement of approximately NIS 5.5 billion (€1.375 billion) for the establishment and operation of an international flight training center for the Hellenic Air Force. Further expansions also include cooperation between the Israeli flight academy and Hellenic Airforce Academy and adding military helicopter pilot training at the facility. The goal of the new center is to train fighter pilots of the Greek Air Force and foreign armed forces, similar to the Italian Air Force/Leonardo International Flight Training School (IFTS).

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the completion of a successful firing test of the Onix ground-launched, supersonic anti-ship cruise missile at a naval target floating at the Arctic Sea, 200 kilometers from the Chukotka Peninsula. The test reinforces the Russian claim to control this new, strategic sea route that has opened as a result of global warming effects.

A US Navy guided missile destroyer launched a salvo of Tomahawk cruise missiles against three Yemeni radar sites along the red sea shoreline, in response to recent attacks on U.S. ships in the region.

A week after the second test of a missile with a hypersonic warhead, North Korea conducted another test flight of such a missile. According to the flight map released by the Koreans, the missile was launched into a ballistic trajectory. This was the third reported test of a hypersonic glide vehicle reported by North Korea. South Korea and Japan both detected this launch, saying a missile had been fired from North Korea towards the sea of Japan.

A German court dismissed a legal challenge from U.S. weapons maker General Atomics to Germany's plans to lease armed drones from Israel Aerospace Industries, clearing the way for the drone program to go ahead, Reuters reported. Judge Heinz-Peter Dicks said the ruling was effective immediately and meant that Germany can now procure drones as it had planned.

In a recent test the Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM), developed by Lockheed Martin, has demonstrated firing from unmanned platforms. In a recent test the missile was fired from a US Army Gray Eagle (MQ-1C) Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) targeting a truck target moving at a speed of 20 mph. The missile was fired from typical UAS operating altitude (about 15,000 ft) and struck the target from a distance of more than eight kilometers. The test took place at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah on May 25, 2016.
