Lockheed Martin Corp has agreed to buy United Technologies Corp's (UTC) Sikorsky Aircraft for over $8 billion, US news agency Reuters reported on Sunday. Such a deal would enhance Lockheed Martin's dominance in the aerospace market, while adding a civil element to its defense-oriented portfolio.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., and Boeing have signed a teaming agreement on Jan. 13, to submit a joint proposal in response to the U.S. Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate solicitation for the Army's Joint Multi-Role (JMR) Technology Demonstrator (TD) Phase 1 program.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation confirmed that they have signed a multi-year contract to build Black Hawk and Seahawk helicopters for the US Army and Navy; the contract is valued at between $7.3 billion and $8.5 billion and could eventually reach as high as $11.7 billion.
The Australian Navy intends to buy 24 MH-60R multi-role naval combat helicopters to equip its new surface ships. The Royal Australian Navy is expected to take delivery of the first two helicopters in 2014. The package will be processed through U.S. Foreign Military Sales. This is the first export order for the MH-60R out of the USA.
