GDLS, Thales team to offer new wheeled armored vehicles to Australia,

General Dynamics Land Systems and Thales Australia are teaming to bid to the Australian Defence Land 400 Phase 2 - Mounted Combat Reconnaissance Capability (MCRC) Request For Tender. The Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) fleet will support seven mission roles identified within the LAND 400 Operational Concept Document (OCD). The Australian tender seek a military-off-the-shelf (MOTS) based capability, and maximise Australian industry content. Through-Life Support for the MCRC is being acquired under a collateral contract. First delivery of the CRV is expected in 2020 with first unit achieving initial operational capability (IOC) three years later.

SOCOM to Modernize its Tactical Vehicle Fleet

As heavy combat vehicle programs are idling, modernization of the tactical vehicles is in progress, as the Army, Marine Corps and Special Operations Command plan to replace and reset their fleet of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV). Two vehicles classes are currently underway - the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), equipping the Army and US Marine Corps, and the Ground Mobility Vehicle (GMV) 1.1 – replacing the HMMWVs operated by the Special Operations Command.

Combat Vehicle Modernization

The absence of new programs provided exhibitors an opportunity to highlight improvement to existing platforms. Among the combat vehicles displayed at AUSA were the M-109 Paladin Improved Mobility (PIM) and Bradley, both included in the US Army’s Enhanced Capability Programs (ECP).

Marine Corps MPC Finally Moving Forward

Lockheed martin will soon hand over their 8x8 Havoc armored personnel carrier built by Patria, for eight months of testing and evaluation as part of the Corps' Marine Personnel carrier program. Overall, the Corps plans to field at least 700 MPCs over a period of seven years.

GDLS to Deliver Double-V-Hull Strykers to Equip Two Brigades

General Dynamics was awarded $367 million to deliver 177 Stryker combat vehicles equipped with double-V hulls (DVHs). Combined with previous orders for DHVs, this production order will provide the U.S. Army with vehicles to equip two Stryker brigade combat teams by July 2013. GDLS delivered the first vehicle Stryker DVH in May 2011, following 14 months of development.
