Brazil Expects to Deploy Pantsir-S1 Air-Defense Systems Before the Rio-2016 Olympics
The Brazilian Ministry of Defense will commence negotiations for the procurement of Pantsir-S1 (SA-22) and Igla (SA-18) Very Short Range Air-Defense missiles (VSHORAD). Timely delivery of the systems is critical to provide Brazil with the necessary air-defense assets it required to place for the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
VSHORAD – India’s Next Big Air Defense Program
India plans to modernize its Very Short Range Air Defense Systems (VSHORAD) systems currently relying on the Russian SA-18 missile with new missiles. For 800 launchers and an initial delivery of 5,000 missiles, India intends to spend over US$5.2 billion. Four candidates are being considered, from Russia, South Korea, Sweden and France with testing and evaluated to commence in May - June this year.
