Thai Navy to Operate Hermes-900 on Maritime Surveillance and SaR Missions

Elbit Systems has received a contract valued at $120 million to supply Hermes 900 Maritime Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and training capabilities to the Royal Thai Navy. The contract will be performed over three years.

Hermes 900 to Assume SaR Missions in the South China Sea

Elbit Systems has recently delivered Unmanned Aerial Systems equipped for maritime search and rescue to an undisclosed customer in South-East Asia. In this configuration, the Hermes 900 is equipped with detection and identification systems, precision dispatch capability, and up to four inflatable life rafts, each can rescue six survivors. This configuration enables the drone to perform long-range maritime Search and Rescue (SaR) missions, and deliver life-saving assistance quickly upon detection of survivors.

Greece Leases Heron Drones from Israel

Greece is leasing Heron I unmanned aerial systems (UAS) from Israel for a three-year service. the drones will be configured for maritime surveillance missions and will operate from the island of Crete. The Herons will be tasked primarily with maritime surveillance and border security. The Heron regularly operates in the region, since the drone was cleared to operate in civil airspace by Israel's Civil Aviation Authority in 2007.

Australia to Operate Six MQ-4C Drones by 2025

Australia commits to buy six Northrop Gruman MQ-4C Triton maritime surveillance drones, to be fielded beginning in 2023, at an investment of $1.4 billion. The Tritons will operate with manned aircraft to enhance Australian anti-submarine warfare, maritime strike, and search and rescue capabilities.

Enhancing Global Hawk ISR Capabilities Over Land and at Sea

The Triton recently demonstrated its ability to share the video with the navy’s P-8A Poseidon, as both platforms were airborne and far away from each other. The Air Forces’ Block 30 Global Hawk was also updated, to carry new mission payloads.

The Australian Government has approved the acquisition of eight Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft at an investment of about A$4 billion (US$3.6 Billion).
