Super Hornets Getting New, Thermal Eyes

The Boeing Co., St. Louis, Missouri, is being awarded an $82 million to deliver 12 Infrared Search and Track (IRST) systems for the F/A-18E/F aircraft. The IRST system developed and built by Lockheed Martin is a long-wave infrared (LWIR) detection system housed in a centerline pod. The IRST acts like a passive radar and targets airborne vehicles in a radar-denied environment.

Denmark Downselects F-35 to Replace its Aging F-16s

The Danish Prime minister and defense minister Denmark confirmed today the Danish government recommendation to buy 27 F-35A Lightning II aircraft for the F-16A/B Fighter Replacement Program (FRP). US Congress Formally Notified of Japan’s F-35 Purchase

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notified the United States Congress on 30 April of a potential Foreign Military Sale of Lockheed Martin F-35A Joint Strike Fighters (JSF) to Japan.  The sale includes an initial order for four F-35A Conventional Take-Off and Landing (CTOL) stealth fighters with an option for the purchase of an additional 38 F-35A CTOL aircraft.  The cost of the purchase is estimated to be $10 billion.

Japan Self Defense Air Force future replacement of F-4J fighters (F-X) is becoming a head-to-head competition between the two American aerospace giants, Boeing and Lockheed martin, offering the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and an advanced variant F/A-18 Super Hornet.
