Switzerland has selected the Hermes 900 Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as the successor for IAI/Ruag Ranger UAV that has been in service with the Swiss Air Force since 2001. The first drones under the $280 million acquisition plan will be delivered by 2017

The Heron 1 drone from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Hermes 900 proposed by Elbit Systems were the two systems shortlisted by the Swiss evaluation team
