First Flight for Rustom II – India’s MALE Drone

The Indian Tapas 201 remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) made its first flight on November 16, the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) announced. The aircraft, formerly known as 'Rustom II,' was developed by the DRDO's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE). The flight took place at the Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga, in the south of India.

DARPA to Expand TERN UAS Testing, Funding a Second Prototype

With progress made with the fabrication of the first flight demonstrator of the Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node (TERN) program DARPA has funded a second TERN technology demonstrator. Tern is currently scheduled to start integrated propulsion system testing in the first part of 2017, move to ground-based testing in early 2018, and culminate in a series of at-sea flight tests in late 2018.

Clearing MTCR Obstacle, India Requests the US to Supply Weaponized Drones

India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) issued a letter of request (LoR) to the United States on 17 June to procure 22 multi-mission General Atomics Guardian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the Indian Navy. The Guardian is a maritime variant of the Predator B. India is requesting the sale of these drones via the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) route.

(GA-ASI) conducted recently the longest flight of Predator B/MQ-9 Reaper Extended Range (ER) Long Wing, retrofitted with improved long-endurance wings with greater internal fuel capacity and additional hard points for carrying external stores. The long wings are the first components to be produced as part of GA-ASI’s Certifiable Predator B (CPB) development project, which will lead to a certifiable production aircraft in early 2018.

A Turkish drone has successfully completed firing tests of UMTAS anti-tank missile. On the recent test the Bayraktar TB2 drone carried two missiles at a total weight of 75 kg. One missile was dropped from an altitude of 16,000 ft. to hit a 2x2 meter laser-designated target self designated from the drone, from a distance of 8,000 meters.
